Flip & Two Twisters: A Documentary About Len Lye is available in the library. Flip and Two Twisters is a documentary about Len Lye, film-maker, poet, and kinetic sculptor. He spent his life developing a highly original art of motion. The documentary explores Lye’s career with newly discovered historical footage of the artist. This documentary has been scene in a variety of film festivals: Biennale du Film sur l’Art at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, Festival International du Film sur l’Art in Montreal, and more. New to DADA – Machinima

The DADA Library received two books on the subject of Machinima, a relatively underrepresented form of film making. The term Machinima is used to describe the use of real-time 3D computer graphics rendering engines to create a cinematic production. Machinima can also be understood as “animated filmmaking within a real-time virtual 3D environment”. Most notably, Red vs. Blue is a set of related comic science fiction video series which centers on two opposing teams of soldiers fighting a civil war, in a parody of first-person shooter Halo and Marathon. New to DADA – Picture Mill

The DADA Library has added a DVD collection containing work from the motion design studio Picture Mill. During the Fall semester of 2010, Creative Director of Picture Mill and Calarts Alumni William Lebeda presented a collection of his person and profession work during the Animation Department Seminar. An achieve of the presentation is available: William Lebeda Seminar Presentation. Film titles, recent work, logos, trailers, commercials, and broadcast titles are available to be checked out. Some of their credits include Drag Me to Hell, the Green Hornet, the Hangover, etc. Come by and check it out!

New to DADA – Studio Ghibli 12 Film Box Set

The Studio Ghibli 12 Film Box Set is one of the newest additions to the Animation Library. Studio Ghibli(株式会社スタジオジブリ) is the Japanese animation and film studio responsible for such films as My Neighbor Totoro, Castle in the Sky, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Spirited Away. As of 2012, they’ve made a total of eighteen films. Twelve of them are available in the Animation Library.

Type Cosmic: Digital Type Collection, Sans Serif is one of the newest additions to the Animation Library. Published the by Institute of Typography, the book of houses a collection of fonts, layouts, and designs. This item was generously donated by DADA’s very own Mar Elepano. Thank you Mar!

Another item has been added to the DADA library catalog: Practical Moviemaking – A handbook for the Real World is a book by USC’s Director of Physical Production, Joe Wallenstein.

Every year, hundreds of American film schools graduate thousands of aspiring filmmakers. New to DADA – The Animal Motion Show DVD

‘The Animal Motion Show’ is a DVD database of 2000 animal video clips and photos made specifically as a visual reference for artists. The collection was produced by a company called Rhino House based in California. The DVD set contains two discs packed with reference footage and visuals: chimps, kangaroos, squirrels, ostriches, tigers, alligator, tortoise, snake, baboon, etc. Each of the animals contains four main sections of study: Locomotion, Behavior, Visuals, and Facts. The material you can viewed in slow motion, as a filmstrip, and a comparative split screen view.

The Screening Room was a series uniquely devoted to independent, experimental and up and coming artists. Hosted by filmmaker Robert Gardner, he interviewed a wide range of guests creating nearly one hundred installments of the ninety-minute program were taped between 1973 and 1980 for WCVB, the ABC affiliate in Boston. The original two-inch video masters were recently acquired by the Museum of Television and Radio in New York and released on DVD from Documentary Educational Resources. Interviews with experimental, documentary, and independent animators and filmmakers are available on DVD in the Animation Library:
